(地球崩壊の予感?謎の新戦士出現) ("Star Struck, Bad Luck")

Airdate: March 19, 1994

Rei is having a strange dream. Untransformed, she watches in horror as the world around her, seen in red light, is slowly consumed by a black wave. The four other Inner Senshi stand like red statues in front of her, motionless. A large and elaborate crystal appears behind her, blinding her with its shine. The city is being destroyed, building by building, as the crystal splits into three smaller crystals, then all of them disappear. Eventually, the black wave consumes everything, shattering her statue-like friends into pieces.

Rei wakes up to see Usagi sleeping, which aggravates her. The five girls are all at Rei's house, studying. Usagi wakes up and tells the others her silly dream, after which they lecture her about treating studies seriously. While the others are talking, Rei recalls her dream.

At his laboratory, which is filled with various chemistry equipment, a mad scientist is heating a test tube with some purple liquid inside. A small round object inside it starts growing, and eventually the tube breaks, with a stripped egg emerging from it and flying upwards. The professor's assistant, a red-haired woman whom he identifies as Kaolinite, appears, and he explains their goal: to find the Holy Grail, which will allow them to control the world. For the Grail to appear, they need to find three talismans hidden inside humans' pure hearts. The egg flies out of the lab and Kaolinite disappears, leaving her lab coat behind.

Back at school, Usagi gets upset after failing a test. She walks down the street, looking straight down, thinking what her parents will say when they find out, and wondering why she is always attracted to Rei at such moments. Naturally, Rei is walking towards her in the opposite direction, also looking down, and they collide.

At a fountain, Rei and Usagi put their foreheads under a stream of water to ease the pain. As always, Rei pokes fun at Usagi for her bad marks, but admits that she has other good qualities. Usagi notes that this admission is unusual, and suddenly Rei's dream flashes in her head again. She changes the subject to their plans for the future, and eventually Usagi is convinced that while Rei sometimes says mean things, she has a kind heart.

At Hikawa Shrine, Kaolinite (floating in the air) watches as the egg implants itself into a tree, and says that the person with a pure heart will appear soon. Shortly thereafter, Rei appears.

Usagi is sitting on a street stairway, sighing at her test results and wondering what Mamoru would say about it — unaware that Mamoru is standing right behind her. They talk about it, and Mamoru walks away, leaving Usagi in tears.

Back at Hikawa Shrine, Rei, now in her miko robes, tries to figure out the meaning of the dream, but is unable to feel anything. She goes outside, picks a fortune from the booth and ties it onto the tree that the egg was embedded into, which is covered in fortune papers. The tree suddenly starts mutating and transforms into a Daimon: Mikuji. Rei runs away and tries to transform, but the Daimon is flying too fast; she knocks Rei's Star Power Stick from her hand, sticks her to a wall, and starts exposing her chest to a black beam. The beam begins to remove Rei's Pure Heart Crystal, and the procedure is painful. Leaving Mikuji to finish the job, Kaolinite disappears.

Meanwhile, Usagi is walking down the street with Luna. She wants to go on a date with Mamoru, but Luna, exposing her claws, reminds her that she promised to study with the other girls. Suddenly, they hear Rei's screams, and Usagi transforms into Sailor Moon.

Mikuji proves to be too powerful and throws Sailor Moon away with her "hair". The three other girls appear, but get trapped before they manage to transform. Sailor Moon is struggling to stand up when a red rose hits Mikuji, and Tuxedo Mask reveals his presence. Sailor Moon stands up and uses Moon Princess Halation, but to everyone's shock, it has no effect.

After knocking the Cutie Moon Rod away, Mikuji pins Sailor Moon against a tree and bites the Crystal Star, sending Sailor Moon into further shock as the Silver Crystal's shine goes out, causing her to detransform. Mikuji then shoots rope at Tuxedo Mask, immobilizing him; Luna and Artemis jump at her, but she easily throws them off.

No longer confronted, Mikuji finally extracts Rei's Heart Crystal from her chest. Usagi, thinking Rei is dead, remembers their last conversation with sorrow.

However, as the Daimon grabs the crystal, she is suddenly struck by two energy balls: one yellow, one blue. The tree reappears, and the Daimon Egg falls out and breaks. Everyone is freed; Rei collapses on the ground, and the girls run to her.

Atop a nearby tree, two mysterious silhouettes, who are clearly Sailor Senshi as well, examine the crystal, find out that it is not a talisman, and return it. The crystal flies back into Rei's body, and she awakens, to the girls' surprise and joy. Meanwhile, Luna and Artemis notice the two mysterious figures jumping off the tree and running away.

Back at the lab, Kaolinite tells the professor that the crystal was not a talisman, and furthermore they met some unexpected resistance.

The girls and Tuxedo Mask, standing in a row, feel that this is the beginning of a new battle.

2 (91)- "Ai no roddo tanjō! Usagi no shin henshin" ("The Rod of Love is Born! Usagi's New Transformation")[]

(愛のロッド誕生うさぎの新変身) ("Crystal Clear Again")

Airdate: March 26, 1994

Professor Tomoe summons Kaolinite to his lab and questions her what their ultimate goal is, and she repeats what he told her earlier: the goal is to find the Holy Grail and use it to rule the world. They mention that the Holy Grail will appear once three talismans, hidden inside Pure Heart Crystals, are collected, and reveal that the new villains call themselves the Death Busters. The professor creates a new Daimon Egg, and it flies out of the lab.

Usagi, in a dream, recalls the loss of her powers. In the dream, she is initially Sailor Moon, but as the Silver Crystal loses its shine, she undergoes a reverse transformation into her civilian clothes. The four other Inner Senshi appear in their uniforms, mocking her for becoming useless. This makes Usagi angry, and she rushes at the girls, but, acting out the dream, violently grabs Luna with her real hands and wakes up after Luna repeatedly slaps her face with a paw.

Usagi tells Luna about her fear of uselessness, but Luna says that it will be all right and suggests asking Mamoru for advice.

Deciding to take Luna's advice, Usagi meets Mamoru at the park and tells him about the dream. After some thought, Mamoru gets an idea. He says that he has something to show her.

The two sneak into the yard of an apparently abandoned house through a hole in the surrounding wall. Usagi, thinking that Mamoru was looking for some romantic privacy, closes her eyes and prepares her lips for a kiss, but Mamoru instead holds a brown kitten against Usagi's face, and it licks her. This scares Usagi, but when she sees the kitten, she finds it cute and calls it Cha-chan. Mamoru explains that homeless cats gather in this house, and he and Usagi go inside to investigate.

Inside the house, a little girl is feeding homeless cats. She hears Usagi's voice and turns to ask who is there, and finds Usagi standing in a Sailor Moon-style pose, complete with the "V" gesture. Mamoru arrives and hands Usagi a package of cat food, and she goes to feed the cats as well. The girl, who introduces herself as Miharu, says that the house will be soon torn down and the cats left truly homeless, so Usagi promises to find owners for them. Mamoru notes how quickly Usagi forgot about her fears.

Meanwhile, the Daimon Egg flies through an open window into a bedroom and embeds itself into a nearly-finished puzzle depicting a white cat, which is lying on the desk.

At Hikawa Shrine, Usagi tells the other girls about the cats, but they all (including Usagi herself) refuse to adopt any, for different reasons. Ami suggests taking some more time to find owners.

Miharu returns home, followed by two kittens; at first, she tries to shove them away, but eventually agrees to let them in until her mother comes. The kittens promptly sneak into her bedroom, where the half-finished puzzle is sitting on her desk. One of the kittens hops onto the desk and damages the puzzle. When Miharu puts the pieces back into place the puzzle suddenly begins to glow, and a face appears out of it, followed by the rest of the Daimon Nekonneru's body.

Miharu runs out of the apartment. As she is closing the front door, Nekonneru manages to catch the girl with her tail, but as Miharu closes the door, the end of the tail is caught and breaks into puzzle pieces. Miharu quickly runs downstairs, followed by the two kittens. Nekonneru opens the door, and the puzzle pieces lying on the floor reattach themselves to her tail, restoring it.

The girl enters the abandoned house and closes the door, but the Daimon appears out of the big window right in front of her.

Meanwhile, Usagi and her friends are just outside the house, playing with the kittens. As they discuss what to do with the cats, however, they hear Miharu's screams from the inside. Nekonneru chases the girl through the house and starts extracting her Pure Heart Crystal. The Daimon is briefly interrupted by the cats, who jump on her and start biting her, but she throws them away.

Seeing this, Usagi tries to transform, but nothing happens. The other Sailor Senshi do transform and challenge the Daimon, but neither Burning Mandala nor Sparkling Wide Pressure have any effect. Instead, the attacks are reflected back at the girls, knocking them down along with Usagi, Luna and Artemis. No longer bothered by anyone, Nekonneru finishes the extraction and grabs the Crystal.

As the Daimon is walking away, two energy balls, the same ones that killed Mikuji, hit her and shatter her into pieces. The mysterious silhouettes appear again; the one with short hair picks up the crystal, says that it is not a talisman, and throws it back into Miharu's body. As the two are walking away, Nekonneru reassembles from the puzzle pieces. Sailor Venus asks the mysterious warriors to stay and fight alongside them, but they say that they are only interested in the talismans and walk away.

The Daimon splits her tail in four and catches each Senshi in a tail, then throws them against the wall. After re-merging the tails into one she attacks Usagi, who is holding Miharu, but a red rose flies through the air and shatters the tail, and Tuxedo Mask appears.

Tuxedo Mask uses his extendable cane to pin Nekonneru against the opposite wall; however, she recovers, breaks the cane and, jumping at Tuxedo Mask, slices his cloak into pieces. His hat and mask fall off, and he barely stands, but manages to throw a rose at the Daimon's face, knocking her down. He then tells Usagi to run away, but she refuses, saying that she wants to stay with the others.

Usagi and Tuxedo Mask stand up and hold hands. Nekonneru jumps at them again, but is thrown back as purple light is emitted in all directions. An illusion of the Moon Castle surrounds the pair as their clothes change to those of Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion, respectively. A new rod appears between them, floating in the air. The Crystal Star transforms into a heart-shaped brooch with a heart-shaped pink crystal within. Usagi and Mamoru take the rod and appear back in the abandoned house, in their previous clothing.

Usagi finally transforms into Sailor Moon with the help of the repowered brooch and with a previously unseen transformation sequence — Moon Cosmic Power, Make Up. She then uses her new power, Moon Spiral Heart Attack, to destroy Nekonneru for good.

Later, Miharu is playing with the cats outside the house while the girls still about what to do with them. After another attempt to persuade her friends to take them fails, Usagi suggests bringing all the cats to the Animal Kingdom, and the others angrily ask her why she didn't come up with this idea earlier and save them all the trouble.

3 (92)- "Suteki na bishōnen? Tenō Haruka no himitsu" ("A Beautiful Boy? The Secret of Haruka Tenou")[]

(素敵な美少年?天王はるかの秘密) ("Driving Dangerously")

Airdate: April 16, 1994

As Usagi walks home from school, she pauses in front of Game Center Crown to look longingly at the door, then sternly tells herself that she has to study hard for exams just like everyone else. As she starts to leave, though, something catches her eye and she cries out in dismay.

Inside the arcade Minako is busily chatting with Motoki, and Usagi stalks up and loudly interrupts, demanding to know what Minako is doing there when everyone is supposed to be studying. Motoki explains that he invited Minako there because he thought she would need a break from studying, and Minako enthusiastically agrees, saying that they're only young once, and if they fail the exams anyway then they'll regret not taking the time to enjoy themselves. As she butchers another proverb in her explanation, though, Motoki sadly suggests that she does need to study, but she doesn't hear and just drags Usagi off to one of the games.

As Usagi and Minako play a racing game, a stranger enters the arcade. Once their game is over, Usagi suggests that they go to Rei's house to study with the others, but Minako insists they need to play. The stranger, who is wearing a Mugen Academy uniform, walks up and asks Usagi if she would mind if he played as well. The two girls are immediately love-struck by what they believe is a handsome boy, and Minako happily sits down to play against him. Once the race starts, though, the boy just sits there, saying that he needs to give Minako a handicap. She is annoyed by this, but once he finally joins the race the boy easily passes her and wins. As Minako bemoans her loss, the boy compliments her, making her blush. Just then a young woman in a Mugen Academy uniform arrives, greeting the boy as "Haruka," and apologizes for being late. The girls stare, awed by her beauty, and Haruka turns to leave with the girl after suggesting to Usagi that he play against her next time. As they walk out the door, the girl teases him about his new friends, suggesting that she might be jealous, but Haruka merely says that they're cute children. Usagi and Minako stare after the two, still in awe, and Motoki arrives and comments that he's seen them around lately.

Haruka and the girl go to a cafe to talk over coffee, and the girl comments that the sea is getting stormy lately, and they need to watch out. Usagi and Minako spy on them in the background, and Minako declares that Haruka is the perfect man for her, despite Usagi's fretting about how he obviously has a girlfriend.

Usagi and Minako continue to follow the couple, and Usagi continues to insist that the girl must be his girlfriend. Minako suggests that she doesn't have to come along, and points out that Usagi already has a boyfriend. When Haruka stops at Tuning Service Kameda Motor and the girl continues walking, Minako declares that they're not a couple after all, and they sneak up closer to listen as Haruka talks to the shop owner.

In his lab, Professor Tomoe asks Kaolinite about her progress. She says that she has almost found someone with a Pure Heart. The professor seems pleased, and creates a new Daimon Egg, sending it off to search.

The Daimon Egg arrives at Kameda Motor and implants itself in the steering wheel of the car Kameda is working on, without him or Haruka noticing. Outside, Minako suggests that Usagi go on to Rei's house, but she whines and insists she wants to watch the beautiful boy, too.

As Haruka watches Kameda work, he notices the edge of Minako's skirt at the edge of the door and smiles, asking "the kittens" how long they are planning to hide. He joins them outside and introduces himself as Haruka Tenou, a first-year high school student. When he asks if they have any other questions, Minako immediately bombards him with questions about the girl he was with, with Usagi echoing behind her. He asks if they mean his Michiru, and tells them their relationship is more than just that of a girlfriend, but suggests that they still have a chance. Michiru joins them then and chides Haruka, saying that he says that to all the girls. As the two of them chat, Minako and Usagi interrupt and demand to know if she is Haruka's girlfriend; she says no, and Minako immediately declares that she'll win him over.

At the Hikawa Shrine, Rei, Ami, and Makoto wonder where Minako and Usagi could be. Rei half-jokingly suggests that they found a handsome boy and are following him around, but then they pause and sigh, realizing it must actually be true.

Back at the auto shop, Haruka says that he likes to visit this shop because Kameda has dreams of becoming a renowned mechanic and working on the best cars. Michiru tells the girls that Haruka dreams of being one of the best racecar drivers, but Haruka says that that used to be his dream, but now he wants to do that which only he can do, even if he has to sacrifice something important. As he speaks, Michiru sets her hand on his, but the girls don't notice, as they're too busy staring at him in awe.

Inside the shop, Kameda finishes his work and closes the hood, but as he touches the steering wheel of the car the Daimon Egg hatches, and the car transforms into the Daimon Steering. Haruka starts to step forward as though going to help, but Michiru grabs his hand and prevents him. Minako and Usagi rush in, but slip on a patch of spilled oil and crash into a display. The Daimon removes Kameda's Pure Heart, then heads off to take the Crystal to Kaolinite. The girls emerge from the pile of cans that had landed on them and are disappointed to discover that Haruka has disappeared. They transform into Sailor Venus and Sailor Moon and head off in search of the Daimon.

Haruka and Michiru catch up to the Daimon on a motorcycle, and Haruka jumps the bike to land on the Daimon, making it crash. As Steering starts to get up again, Sailor Venus and Sailor Moon arrive on a bicycle and make their speeches. As the Daimon prepares to attack them, though, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune interrupt, saying that they're also looking for the talisman. The two mysterious Sailor Senshi attack simultaneously, immobilizing the Daimon long enough for Sailor Moon to destroy it with Moon Spiral Heart Attack. Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus examine the Pure Heart Crystal and decide that it isn't a talisman, then give it to Sailor Moon, telling her to return it to its owner.

Later at the Game Center Crown, the other girls find Minako and Usagi and discover what they've been up to. As they're talking, Michiru arrives, and Minako, Rei, and Makoto immediately ask where Haruka is. Michiru gestures toward the young woman standing next to her, and as they look again realize that now that Haruka has removed her uniform jacket and partially unbuttoned her shirt, she is most definitely female. Haruka laughs and points out that she'd never said she was a man. Minako sags in disappointment, while Ami sighs over their antics and Usagi self-righteously insists that she thought that Mamo-chan was better from the beginning.

4 (93)- "Usagi no akogare! Yūbi no tensai Michiru" ("Usagi's Idol! The Graceful Genius Michiru")[]

(うさぎの憧れ!優美な天才みちる) ("Bad Harmony")

Airdate: April 23, 1994

Usagi brings some cookies (a number of which are burnt) to Mamoru's apartment. He isn't there so warpped up in the place's usual mature atmosphere she drops the cookies and cries as he enters. To cheer her up Mamoru forces himself to eat one of her cookies and tells her that she's fine the way she is.

In Lovers' Park (?) the other senshi wonder how he was able to eat them all and not get sick. Ami submits that if they were thoroughly cooked there's little chance he'd get food poisoning. After laughing they brace for Usagi's rage but instead she compliments herself. She asks Ami to teach her genetic engineering, asks Makoto to teach her cooking, asks Minako to teach her English (Minako thinks "Why?" in English) and asks Rei to teach her how to wear a kimono. Minako and Makoto make excuses and run away. Rei points out that she told Usagi many times how to wear a priestess' kimono but she never got it anyway then drags Ami off with her. Luna reminds Usagi that when she tries to learn from the others she always quits within 3 days and they're sick of it. Usagi cries and runs away.

She somehow stumbles on the exact spot where Michiru was practising the violin with Haruka watching. They discuss their mission and decide that if the owners of the 3 talismans have to die then so be it (in fact they didn't have to die as Usagi told them often enough). Usagi is entranced by Michiru's playing and begins to look up to her. Haruka throws a lemon at the violin and without breaking a sweat Michiru uses the violin to solo it even while continuing to play and move as one solos a soccer ball with one's feet. Haruka heads off on her motorbike to cool off.

Usagi and Michiru go to an art gallery and a fan comes up to Michiru by her painting expressing his admiration. They go outside and Haruka returns, almost blowing their cover mentioning the enemy headquarters but Usagi didn't hear a word as she was too busy failing miserably to play Michiru's violin. They go to a restaurant where Usagi singlehandedly eats 7 icecreams and Michiru gives her 2 tickets to an upcoming violin recital. Mamoru and the other senshi and cats come too. Too busy watching Mamoru as opposed to the performance Usagi makes him sweat and verily does Rei proceed to smack her upside the head. A youma pops up and gets beaten.

7 (96)- "Reikoku na Uranusu? Makoto no pinchi" ("Cold-Hearted Uranus? Makoto in Trouble")[]

(冷酷なウラヌス?まことのピンチ) ("Lita Borrows Trouble")

Airdate: May 14, 1994

Makoto and Usagi are walking to Rei's place for another study session after school. Usagi mentions Makoto's cooking skills, and Makoto says that everyone sees her as an unfeminine girl, and she wishes other people could see her as a regular girl who loves to cook and clean, like Usagi does. The two start to cross the street as they continue their conversation, and as they do someone on a motorcycle comes speeding around the corner and has to quickly brake to avoid hitting them. Makoto pushes Usagi out of the way, but injures her hand in the process. She turns to confront the biker, and notices that it's Haruka. Haruka apologizes for not paying attention, then ties her scarf around Makoto's injured hand while complimenting her on her bravery. As Haruka leaves, she winks and blows the girls a kiss, leaving Makoto staring after her and blushing. Usagi reminds her that Haruka is a woman, and Makoto says that she knows that.

Elsewhere, Michiru is floating in a swimming pool, remembering a conversation she had with Haruka about how they must find the talismans, even if it means sacrificing the owner of the Pure Heart Crystal in which they are found. They know the Silence is coming and must prevent it at all costs. Michiru climbs out of the pool and calls Haruka on their communicators, saying that the seas are in an uproar. Haruka, out on her motorcycle in the Azabu-Juuban district, agrees and says she can feel a presence but it hasn't moved yet.

As Makoto, Usagi, and Ami are walking to school, Makoto asks if anyone knows where Haruka lives. A suspicious Usagi questions Makoto's motives, but Makoto insists that she is just going to return Haruka's scarf. The three of them walk past Kaolinite, who observes to herself that her target is confirmed. A strong wind suddenly blows the scarf out of Makoto's hands, and she chases after it. The scarf lands under a car, and as Makoto reaches for it, a Daimon Egg merges with the scarf, and as soon as Makoto touches it the scarf turns into the Daimon Scar. Makoto is saved by Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury, but Kaolinite orders the Daimon to escape. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune watch from atop a building nearby. Sailor Neptune asks if they should tell the other Sailor Senshi what they're doing and fight with them, but Sailor Uranus angrily replies that the Silence is coming, and those girls wouldn't be able to sacrifice anyone. Sailor Neptune asks what they are going to do, then, and Uranus replies that the enemy will attack Makoto again, so they should stick close to her.

After school as Makoto and Usagi continue searching for the scarf, Haruka and Michiru pull up beside them. Haruka says that she has something she wants to talk to Makoto about, and asks if she wants to come for a ride. Makoto accepts, and they drive off, leaving Usagi behind. As they talk, Haruka says that she wanted to become better friends with Makoto.

Usagi goes to meet up with the other girls and tells them what happened. Usagi, Rei, and Minako talk about Makoto being on a "date" with a girl until Ami interrupts them and points out that the enemy is targeting Makoto and it's dangerous for her right now. The girls call Makoto on her communicator, but she assures them that she's fine and if an enemy shows up she'll defeat it. She adds that she isn't in love with Haruka, she simply admires and looks up to her.

Scar appears and attacks Makoto, and though Haruka and Michiru try to help her, but are knocked away by the Daimon's attack and disappear into some nearby bushes. Scar then removes Makoto's Pure Heart Crystal as the now transformed Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune watch from hiding, waiting to see if the Crystal holds a talisman. Kaolinite appears to take the Crystal, but Sailor Uranus uses World Shaking to knock it out of her hand and Kaolinite retreats, leaving the Daimon to fight them. The other Sailor Senshi arrive to help, and Sailor Uranus returns the Crystal to Sailor Moon, ordering her to give it back to Makoto. She does so, and then she and Sailor Mercury carry Makoto into the bushes to keep her away from danger. Makoto insists on fighting, now determined to know why Uranus and Neptune waited to save her. She transforms into Sailor Jupiter and attacks Scar, and Sailor Moon finishes her off with Moon Spiral Heart Attack.

As Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune start to leave Sailor Jupiter confronts them, accusing them of being just as bad as the Daimons. She attacks Sailor Uranus, who knocks her down with a hard blow to the stomach and escapes with Neptune. As the two run away, however, Sailor Neptune notices that Sailor Uranus is bleeding from Sailor Jupiter's attack, and Sailor Uranus admits that she is strong.

Sailor Jupiter finds Haruka's scarf and remembers that the two were attacked by the Daimon as well. She detransforms and goes to find them in the bushes, and discovers that Haruka's hand is injured. She apologizes for putting them in danger, and wraps the scarf around the injury, saying that she needed to return it anyway. Makoto thinks that Haruka is a wonderful person, and she hopes she can be that kind of person someday.

Later, as the girls are walking together down the street, Ami sees Makoto in a shop trying on a scarf. Makoto admires herself in the mirror, then blows a kiss and winks at her reflection just like Haruka.

8 (97)- "Mizu no rabarinsu! Nerawareta Ami" ("The Labyrinth of Water! Ami the Targeted")[]

(水のラビリンス!ねらわれた亜美) ("Damp Spirits")

Airdate: May 21, 1994

The vice-principal finds Ami in the hallway of the school and returns a book that she'd left behind in a classroom. He wonders if something is on her mind, since it's not like her to leave books behind, and mentions that entrance exams are coming up soon. He says that he'd heard Ami was helping out the bad students, and suggests that she not let them drag her down academically. Ami tells the vice-principal that he shouldn't say such things. Usagi overhears the conversation and becomes distressed to think that she's keeping Ami from doing well. As she's sitting there, depressed, Naru arrives and demands that Usagi treat her to pizza like she had promised, then drags her off. After the vice-principal leaves, Ami is left feeling sad because the only thing she seems to have is academics.

As Ami sits on the steps at Azabu-Juuban Park Mamoru sees her and comes up to join her. She asks him what she would have left if academics were taken away. At Mamoru's confused look she explains that she'd always had a dream of becoming a doctor like her mother, and that was why she studied so hard, but now she's starting to think that she doesn't have a dream at all. She says that people with real dreams shine brighter, like Usagi, and she can't be a good doctor just because she's good at studying. Mamoru encourages her, and feeling cheered up, Ami heads off to go swimming before her study group starts. As Mamoru watches her leave, he observes that she shines brightly enough as she is.

Kaolinite watches Ami from above, thinking that a genius girl like that must have a pure heart.

Ami gets into the water at the pool, thinking that there isn't anyone else there and begins to swim. As she swims, however, she sees Michiru, and they admire each other's swimming. Michiru says that Ami must have lived in a world of water in her past life, but Ami says she doesn't know. Michiru suggests that they race to the other side of the pool, and Haruka's voice can be heard counting down for them to start. Ami deliberately slows down her pace so that the race ends in a tie, but Michiru realizes what she did and is angry. Ami apologizes and runs away. From her perch up on one of the diving boards, Haruka tells Michiru that Ami just wanted to be friends, and tried to avoid a confrontation. Michiru says that she feels sorry for Ami.

Ami goes to the Hikawa Shrine to meet with her friends who are studying. The girls immediately swarm Ami and ask questions about what they're studying, but Usagi stops them and says that Ami has to focus on her own studies so she can become a doctor. Ami thanks her, then claims she forgot something and turns to go, but as she does Usagi sees she has tears in her eyes. The other girls are stunned to see this, but as Rei suggests that they get back to studying before Usagi's enthusiasm for it fades, she also claims to have forgotten something and runs after Ami.

Usagi tries to find Ami, wondering what she'd said wrong. In the meantime Ami stands on a bridge and stares at the water, thinking to herself that even Usagi is only worried about her studies, but she doesn't have anything else. Haruka arrives on her motorcycle and tells Ami that Michiru wanted a rematch. She offers Ami a ride to the sports center, but Ami refuses and says she will walk. Luna and Artemis see her walking and wonder why she's not studying with the others.

In his lab Professor Tome creates a new Daimon Egg and sends it off in search of a pure heart.

Ami arrives at the pool and finds Michiru waiting for her. She says she is sorry for what happened earlier, and asks if Michiru is mocking her. Michiru replies that she only wants a good race.

Artemis finds Usagi and tells her that Ami went to the sports center and Luna is keeping an eye on her, and the two of them rush off. In the meantime, Luna paces by the door to the building and worries about Ami.

Ami and Michiru get on the starting blocks, and Haruka snaps her fingers to start the race. As they swim, Ami thinks that she's never raced against someone as fast as Michiru before, and that she might actually lose. She wonders why she's trying so hard to win, and realizes that if she gave up now she'd just be running away, and she doesn't want to do that because it's important that she do her best. This time the race ends in a real tie, and Michiru suggests that the two of them swim together again some time, before she and Haruka leave.

After they go Ami decides that she wants to swim some more, but as she steps into the pool the Daimon Egg arrives and hatches into the Daimon Doburin, who attacks Ami to extract her Pure Heart Crystal. Usagi arrives just in time and transforms into Sailor Moon, interrupting Doburin's attack and causing the Daimon to turn on her. Kaolinite takes Ami's Pure Heart Crystal, and Sailor Moon begs her to give it back because Ami is kind and smart and her very dear friend. Kaolinite realizes that the Crystal isn't a Talisman and becomes angry, but Tuxedo Mask throws a rose that makes her drop the Crystal. Kaolinite leaves, telling the Daimon to deal with them. Tuxedo Mask attacks the Daimon with the help of Luna and Artemis, and Sailor Moon finishes it off with Moon Spiral Heart Attack.

Sailor Moon returns the Pure Heart Crystal to Ami, not noticing Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune watching them. Sailor Neptune observes that it wasn't a Talisman this time, and Sailor Uranus says she's probably pleased about that.

Sailor Moon apologizes to Ami and asks if she said something wrong. Ami says it wasn't her fault; she was just a little depressed and now thanks to Sailor Moon she is better. Sailor Moon doesn't understand, but Tuxedo Mask says he is pleased that she's feeling better. Ami says that she realized she has to do her best without stopping. Sailor Moon looks between the two of them and reminds Ami that Tuxedo Mask is her boyfriend. Ami teases Usagi about it until she finally declares that they need to go back and study.

10 (99)- "Otoko no yasashisa! Yūichirō Rei ni shitsuren?" ("The Kindness of a Man! Yuichiro, Heartbroken by Rei?")[]

(男の優しさ!雄一郎レイに失恋?) ("Mixed Emotions")

Airdate: June 18, 1994

Rei is chanting intensely in front of a ceremonial fire. Yuuichirou watches her with concern, and when Rei's grandfather enters, says that he is concerned for Rei's health and that he wishes he could do something. Rei's grandfather tells Yuuichirou that whatever it is that Rei is doing, she will not quit until she gets the answer. Rei's conjuring reaches a climax, and the fire builds and seems about to reveal something. Yuuichirou notices Rei's hair is getting close to being burned in the fire. The spell breaks, the fire dies, and Rei realizes someone is behind her. She tells Yuuichirou she is busy and says that whatever he wants must wait until morning, because this fortune is very important. Yuuichirou agrees and gives her his arm band to use as a hair tie, to keep her hair from getting singed should the fire get too wild again. He leaves, and once outside, bemoans his powerlessness.

Down in his lab, Professor Tomoe is waxing ecstatic over the latest Daimon Egg. Kaolinite agrees with him, and then he berates her for wasting his hard work. She reassures him that her plans are also art, and that she will get the Talismans. She departs to the sound of the professor's maniacal laughter.

The next afternoon, Yuuichirou is following Rei as she goes home from school; he was actually sent to buy groceries and was distracted when he saw her. As he silently ponders to himself what could be bothering Rei, Usagi comes up from behind and startles him. She admires his devotion to Rei, and after learning that she is staying up nights trying to foresee something, she concludes that only one thing could be so important: love. Usagi convinces Yuuichirou that Rei is trying to predict whether they will make a good couple together. Yuuichirou is very happy to hear about this and proceeds to make a public spectacle of himself.

Meanwhile, Kaolinite is sitting atop the moving city transit train. She implants the Daimon Egg into the train, as her plan is to use the train to check all passengers for pure hearts.

Yuuichirou walks down the street and comes upon Rei and Haruka talking. Haruka puts her hand on Rei's cheek and Yuuichirou, mistaking Haruka for a man, is shocked that Rei would be flirting with "him." Haruka offers Rei a ride home on her motorcycle. Convinced he cannot possibly compete with someone as attractive as Haruka, Yuuichirou is crushed and leaves, and does not see Rei use the arm band he gave her to tie her hair back for the ride. Haruka asks Rei why she doesn't use a proper hair ribbon. She says the arm band is a kind of lucky charm, and Haruka jokingly says Rei must think she's an unsafe driver.

While studying with the others, Rei falls asleep, but is awakened in the middle of her apocalyptic nightmare. Everyone wonders what is troubling her. She says it's nothing and goes to wash her face with cold water. Usagi is sure that Rei is worried about love, but Makoto senses that it's something else. Makoto joins Rei outside to see if she wants to talk about it, but Rei is not really sure of what is going on. Makoto assures her that when it is time for the Sailor Senshi, they'll be ready, but to make sure it doesn't happen right before exams.

Later that night, Yuuichirou is jogging and trying to figure out who his mysterious rival could be. As he takes a drink of water at a public fountain, he hears someone playing a violin, and sees Michiru. Haruka arrives and frets about whether their actions are futile. Michiru draws close to her and says that they must do what they can. Yuuichirou is now extremely angry as he thinks Haruka has not only ruined his chances, but is also two-timing Rei.

The next day Yuuichirou has called Haruka out, and they meet in an empty lot in the rain. Haruka is confused as to why Yuuichirou wants to fight her, but agrees nonetheless. Yuuichirou attempts to strike Haruka multiple times but misses each time and falls to the ground. Rei arrives on the scene and demands an explanation. Yuuichirou thinks Rei is defending her new boyfriend, admits Haruka is very manly, and tells Haruka to take good care of Rei and quit two-timing. Rei fully realizes what has happened and is utterly embarrassed. Yuuichirou departs, wishing Rei happiness, and Haruka suggests that Rei go after him. Rei claims not to know him, but also says that he is a colossal idiot.

The rain has stopped and the girls are studying at Hikawa Shrine again. Rei has not arrived yet, and Usagi notices that Yuuichirou doesn't seem to be around either. Then Makoto comes and tells them that Yuuichirou is about to leave the shrine for good. They rush off and find him explaining his actions to Rei's grandfather, who grudgingly accepts his decision and wishes him well. The girls quickly surround him to ask why he is leaving, but he begs them not to.

As he starts to leave, Rei appears. They pass each other and he glances at her, but she continues on. When he is well past, she turns and remarks to herself that he is such an idiot. The girls surround her, and Usagi wants to know why she doesn't care that he's gone. She says that blockhead who jumps to conclusions can go where he wants. Usagi says he acts so foolish because he cares so deeply for her. Rei, now in the verge of tears, counters that if he cares so much he should have trusted her to the very end, no matter what he saw. Usagi says that she should at least tell him that, and try to make up. Rei takes the advice and goes after him.

Yuuichirou is about to board the train when Rei appears, interrupting him as he thinks of her. But as he touches the train car, it flashes with energy, levitates, and turns into the Daimon Toden. Kaolinite appears behind him and orders Toden to take the heart crystal of one who loves so deeply. The Daimon removes Yuuichirou's heart crystal, but Rei transforms into Sailor Mars and intervenes. Kaolinite takes the heart crystal and Yuuichirou collapses. Sailor Mars is distracted by this, and Toden attacks, trapping her with a strap hanger. Kaolinite realizes that the heart crystal does not hold a talisman. Sailor Venus appears and hits her with the Venus Love-Me Chain, as Sailor Mercury whisks the heart crystal to safety.

Kaolinite departs, leaving Toden to deal with the Senshi. While spouting train safety and operational slogans, Toden quickly gets the upper hand against the Senshi, but then Sailor Mars freezes her with Akuryo Taisan and follows up with her Burning Mandala attack. Sailor Moon then finishes the Daimon off with Moon Spiral Heart Attack.

The girls return the heart crystal. Watching from afar, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are impressed as the Inner Senshi are getting better at fighting the Daimons. Yuuichirou awakens with his head in Rei's lap, and sits up wondering what happened to the monster. Rei tells him it must have been some dream he had after he slipped and fell. She uses his arm band to bind up an injury to his arm, tells him that he should put more thought into things, and also orders him to give her a proper hair ribbon next time. Rei tells him it is time to go home, and that later he will have to apologize to Haruka for picking a fight with a "meek little girl." Yuuichirou realizes how foolish he has been, and Rei lends him a shoulder as they walk off into the night.

19 (108)- "Usagi no dansu wa warutsu ni notte" ("Usagi's Dance, In Time to a Waltz")[]

(うさぎのダンスはワルツに乗って) ("Everything's Coming Up Rosey")

Airdate: September 17, 1994

Usagi, Rei, Minako, Ami, and Makoto are studying at Mamoru's air-conditioned apartment when there is a knock at the door. Usagi opens it to reveal a blue-eyed man with a cane and cravat. After she tries unsuccessfully to speak to him in English, Mamoru walks in and greets the man he recognizes as "Edwards." Edwards then, speaking fluent Japanese, invites him to a party that he is hosting that night at his mansion on the edge of town for other young and promising international students. He extends the invitation to the girls as well, much to their excitement. After Edwards leaves, Mamoru tells the girls a bit about the man and his parties, and proposes they brush up on their English. All the girls are excited about the party except for Usagi, who dreads having to speak English.

Meanwhile, Professor Tomoe is in his lab, on the phone with Eudial. He requests a target that loves a waltz and is passionate about the future. Eudial finds Edwards' profile, but is rewarded with nothing but the sound of the Professor's "waltz" playing on the other end of the phone. He converts his gramophone, with the music still playing from it, into a Daimon using the Death Busters' machinery and loads it into Eudial's car. As she leaves, the car surfaces with a huge splash of water from a park pond, disrupting a loitering couple.

On the evening of the party, the festivities at Edwards' mansion are in full swing. The girls and Mamoru arrive and are hailed in English by George, who walks over with a fellow student and Edwards. Usagi panics when she doesn't understand their greetings, and darts behind a curtain to quickly practice with her phrasebook. She admires the other girls conversing with the three men, assuming they are speaking English, and not realizing they are actually speaking in Japanese. As she's reading her phrasebook, she reaches to the table beside her for a drink of juice to calm her nerves. Instead she picks up a glass with an alcoholic beverage inside and drinks it. While she is fretting, Mamoru chats with George and Ned, while Ami speaks to Edwards, who encourages her to do her best like the other older students in the room. Usagi drunkenly walks past Minako, Makoto, and Rei, who are standing to one side, and interrupts Mamoru's conversation. Though her babbling embarrasses him and Ami, it seems to charm his friends. Edwards ushers her to the balcony under Mamoru's care and then introduces Haruka and Michiru as the musical guests of the evening. Mamoru, Ami, Rei, Makoto and Minako attempt to revive Usagi on the balcony while Eudial pulls up in her car on the other side of the mansion.

After their performance is finished, Haruka and Michiru greet the other Sailor Senshi and a waltz starts to play. Michiru manages to get Mamoru to dance with her, and Haruka also asks Usagi. Rei, Makoto, and Minako excitedly begin a game of jan-ken for the next dance with Haruka, while Ami pretends to ignore them. Mamoru discusses their competing philosophies about what it means to fight for the future with Michiru, while Eudial enters the ballroom unnoticed.

Haruka, Michiru, and Mamoru switch dance partners, and Edwards uses the opportunity to show the five Inner Senshi the view from a larger balcony that is lined with roses and faces the city. He tells them a bit about his hopes for the future, then goes inside to fetch refreshments. Having finished dancing, Mamoru is drinking by the kitchen entrance when he notices smoke coming from the door. He cannot stop the waiter from opening it and the smoke quickly fills the ballroom. Edwards tries to help Eudial escape, thinking she is simply one of the guests, but she promptly turns on him and shoots out his Pure Heart Crystal. The girls on the balcony see the smoke and peer tentatively into the room, while unbeknownst to them, Haruka and Michiru transform into Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. The two Outer Senshi quickly attack Eudial, getting the Heart Crystal back. Eudial's car backs up into the ballroom, releasing the Daimon, Chikuon, but its dress is so heavy that it falls down. The other Senshi who have now transformed use this chance to give an extra long speech in the name of storybook princesses. Uranus reveals that the Heart Crystal does not contain a Talisman, and Eudial drives away, leaving Chikuon to fight the Senshi. Edwards' Crystal is returned to him during the battle, and Sailor Uranus knocks the the Daimon down with World Shaking before leaving with Sailor Neptune. Chikuon is not destroyed, however, and transforms into her second form, and the remaining Senshi fight her. Sailor Moon finishes her with Moon Spiral Heart Attack, leaving a broken gramophone and the Daimon Egg behind.

The ballroom finally recovers from the chaos of the Death Busters' intrusion and Usagi dances to a waltz with Mamoru. Rei, Minako, Makoto, and Ami stand to one side with Edwards, who is still slightly confused as to what happened. Rei, Minako, and Makoto again play jan-ken to win a dance with Haruka, though she is nowhere to be seen. In fact, she and Michiru are in a tree outside the mansion, still transformed. Neptune reflects on Edwards' hopes for a "rosy future," but Uranus reminds her that they still must find the Talismans soon.

20 (109)- "Shōgeki no toki! Akasareta tagai no shōtai" ("A Time of Shock! True Identities Revealed to One Another")[]

(衝撃の刻!明かされた互いの正体) ("No Turning Back")

Airdate: September 24, 1994

Eudial tells the professor that about the purity chalice, and the professor says that someone is coming close to getting the purity force. The professor then tells his plan to use the purity force to rule the world, but that is only if Eudial does her job. He also tells her to continue getting heart crystals, in order to get the purity chalice.

Usagi gets upset because she broke her time record, but didn’t get the answers correct. Rei says she should be happy, compared to having her pure heart taken. Minako wonders why her pure heart was taken.

Artemis finds Minako sitting on a swing, and asks what’s wrong. Minako tells him that she thinks she doesn’t have a pure heart. She thinks that maybe it is because her heart isn’t in shape, and then heads to the gym to work on her volleyball. When she had hit every ball, she realizes that she had hit Usagi. Usagi tells her that she came to cheer her up. Minako tells her that she is absolutely fine.

Usagi still wants to make sure that Minako was okay, and asks her if she still doesn’t want her heart crystal snatched. She says no, and goes on to describe how her heart crystal was not taken yet, without directly saying it was her heart crystal. Usagi shakes Minako, and her hands press the buttons repeatedly, making all the toys in machine get in the hook, and Minako wins all of them. Minako offers half of the toys to Usagi, to show a sign of pure unselfishness, and Usagi decides not to take them.

Minako heads to a bookstore to find a book on pure hearts. Luna , Usagi, and Artemis decide to leave her alone for a while to calm down. Haruka and Michiru see Minako, and Minako asks about pure hearts. Minako leaves after she hears about a blood drive, and Haruka and Michiru wonders if she knows about the purity force. Just as Haruka and Michiru are about to leave, Minako returns and gives each of them a toy.

Minako signs up as a blood donor. Eudial tells the Professor that she has found a target for a pure heart, and the Professor creates a new Daimon. Minako thinks about how this will make her a target for sure.

Usagi talks to Mamoru about how Minako is acting, and Mamoru suggests that she is around Minako in case her wish comes true. Luna, Artemis, Ami, Rei, and Makoto are watching Minako, and are worried about how she is attracting the heart snatchers, and they see Usagi running after Minako.

Eudial spots Minako and causes her heart crystal to appear. Minako is joyful that she has a pure heart, and runs away with the crystal in hand. Everyone runs after her including Michiru, and Haruka. Eudial manages to get there first. Usagi tells her not to take another step towards Minako, and Michiru and Haruka are watching Usagi.

Eudial calls for the Daimon: Doorknobder to seal all the exits, trapping the 3 girls inside. Usagi decides to save Minako, and she risks transforming in front of Haruka and Michiru. Eudial tells Doorknobder to attack Sailor Moon, and she heads for Minako’s heart crystal. Michiru throws the toy that she had at Eudial, then she and Haruka transform into Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus . Uranus then uses World Shaking to attack Eudial.

Neptune checks the crystal, then returns it to Minako because it wasn’t a talisman. Everyone hears the other Sailor Scouts trying to bust the door open. Eudial then tells Doorknobder to get rid of all the Sailor Scouts. Neptune use Deep Submerge to attack her. Doorknobder begs Eudial to make her stop fighting. Sailor Moon use Moon Spiral Heart Attack, and Eudial, using her fire buster, causes the attack to go towards Doorknobder and destroy her.

The four sailor scouts finally open the door, and Eudial tells all of them to group together, or she will blast the still not transformed Minako. Minako throws all the toys at Eudial, then transforms into Sailor Venus. She uses Venus Love-Me Chain to crack Eudial’s fire buster. Eudial leaves in her car, and Sailor Moon asks Uranus and Neptune what is their purpose to get pure heart crystals. They decide not to tell the purpose, then leave.

21 (110)- "Uranusu-tachi no shi? Tarisuman shutsugen" ("Death of Uranus and Neptune!? Talismans Appear")[]

(ウラヌス達の死 タリスマン出現) ("Destiny's Arrival")

Airdate: October 15, 1994

Michiru is lying on a deck chair by a large swimming pool, dreaming of standing in the sky, with white clouds and seagulls flying nearby. Haruka awakens her, and they tell each other about their dreams, concluding with the belief that they are going to find the talismans this day.

At the Witches 5 base, Eudial tries using a new computer program to precisely identify the bearers of the talismans. She takes a break and goes to her locker, but when she takes her shoes out of the locker and puts them on, she screams in pain: somebody had put a thumbtack into one of the shoes. Also, to Eudial's horror, she discovers that the locker is full of snails. She then hears her subordinates chatting behind a wall, with Mimete telling the others that Eudial screwed up again and is unfit to lead the Witches 5.

Angry with Mimete, Eudial goes back to her computer, which finally shows the talisman-bearers - but the answer shocks her.

At Haruka's apartment, she and Michiru hear the phone ring but do not pick it up. Eudial leaves a message on the machine, saying that she has found the owner of the talismans; knowing Haruka and Michiru's identities, she proposes a meeting. As she sits next to the window, Haruka thinks of how her hands have been stained; Michiru then sits next to her, takes her hands, and says she likes them the way they are.

Meanwhile, each of the Inner Senshi remember their encounters with Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune and their attempts to persuade them to work together, which all failed. As Usagi lies on her bed, thinking, Shingo calls out to her, saying she has a call from Haruka.

On the street, Mamoru and Chibiusa discuss the phone call Usagi received. Nearby, a mysterious woman with dark green hair listens to their conversation.

Usagi meets Haruka and Michiru at a large indoor aquarium. She urges them to work together with the other Sailor Senshi and cease their search for the talismans. They do not agree, however, and to prevent her from interfering, Haruka forcefully takes away Usagi's transformation brooch.

Haruka and Michiru then transform into Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune and fly away from the rooftop in a helicopter, leaving Usagi behind. The mysterious woman appears and identifies herself as Setsuna Meiou, an old friend of the two. She displays the knowledge that Usagi is Sailor Moon, and despite no longer being able to transform, Usagi decides to go and help them anyway after Setsuna says they are in danger.

Sailor Uranus and Neptune enter the Marine Cathedral, where Eudial was supposed to meet them, but they are unable to find Eudial herself. Suddenly, large blocks with carvings separate from the walls and start moving, controlled by Eudial from another room. Using the combined power of World Shaking and Deep Submerge, the two Senshi dispose of all the blocks but one. It heads for Sailor Uranus, but Sailor Neptune pushes her out of the way and gets hit by it instead. The block flips, trapping her in the space behind the wall, then disappears and becomes part of the normal wall.

Eudial speaks to Sailor Uranus from afar, revealing that Sailor Neptune is a talisman-bearer. Sailor Uranus rushes through the hallway, only to find Sailor Neptune motionless, tied to the block that hit her. Eudial then appears with her gun, saying that she will take Sailor Uranus' talisman first. Sailor Neptune breaks free and runs towards Sailor Uranus, but is hit by a number of projectiles fired from the wall blocks. She still resists and reaches for Eudial, who panics and then accidentally shoots her with her gun, causing her Pure Heart Crystal to appear. As it does, it changes its shape to a mirror with the Neptune symbol - the first talisman. Sailor Neptune collapses.

Sailor Uranus is shocked at this, and out loud asks herself if this is what she and Sailor Neptune deserve for their deeds. Eudial turns to Sailor Uranus and prepares to fire at her, but then Usagi appears, runs to Eudial, and pushes her off a bridge. For a second, Sailor Uranus sees Usagi not as herself, but as a long-haired being of light. Jumping down, Eudial catches a rope wound on a pulley and descends into the black unknown.

Usagi tries to get Sailor Neptune's talisman to go back into her body. Sailor Uranus gives Usagi her brooch back and points Eudial's gun at her own chest. Usagi urges her to reconsider, saying that they can save the world without the talismans. Sailor Uranus comments that she, for a moment, got a strange feeling that Usagi would be able to actually save the world, and says she looked like the Messiah when she said it. Nevertheless, she shoots herself with Eudial's gun, causing her own Heart Crystal to appear. It then changes into a curved sword - the second talisman.

When the four Inner Senshi arrive, with Setsuna keeping some distance behind them, they see Usagi crying over the seemingly lifeless bodies of Sailor Uranus and Neptune, the talismans floating above them.

22 (111)- "Seihai no shinpi na chikara! Mūn nidan henshin" ("The Grail's Divine Power! Moon's Double Transformation")[]

(聖杯の神秘な力!ムーン二段変身) ("The Purity Chalice")

Airdate: October 22, 1994

The five girls gather around the motionless bodies of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, whose talismans are still floating in the air above them. Sailor Mars checks Sailor Uranus' pulse and concludes that she is still alive. Suddenly, they get hit by a large wave of flame; as the wave passes them, Eudial runs behind it and grabs the talismans before the Senshi can react. Upon seeing her, Usagi transforms into Sailor Moon.

Eudial uses her new and powered up flamethrower, the Fire Buster II, to knock down Sailor Moon and surround the Senshi with a circle of fire. Sailor Mercury uses Shine Aqua Illusion on the fire wall, but to no avail. Then Sailor Mars, rationalizing that she should fight fire with fire, uses Burning Mandala, but it only makes the problem worse. Eudial runs away.

The situation seems hopeless, but then Tuxedo Mask breaks through a window from the outside, with Sailor Chibi Moon holding on to him. She throws Luna P at the fire, it explodes, and the fire disappears.

Leaving Tuxedo Mask behind to watch over Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, the girls run after Eudial. They almost catch up with her, but Eudial uses a device to spill sticky liquid on the floor and everyone is trapped - except Sailor Moon, who was lagging behind. Sailor Moon is thus forced to use the others as stepping stones, jumping onto them one by one, to pass the sticky pool. As she runs through a dark hallway, Setsuna observes her from a ledge above.

Sailor Moon eventually catches up with Eudial, but her Moon Spiral Heart Attack is outmatched by the Fire Buster II. Eudial then prepares to fire at Sailor Moon again, but is interrupted by Setsuna, who orders her to give back the talismans. The other Inner Senshi and Sailor Chibi Moon run in, having escaped the sticky trap. Setsuna transforms into Sailor Pluto in front of them, and they recognize her from their previous encounter at the Space-Time Door.

Sailor Pluto then reveals, to everyone's shock, that the third and last talisman is at the top of her staff, but she says that she will never let Eudial have it. The talisman then begins to glow, disconnects from the staff, and flies into Sailor Pluto's right hand. Eudial watches in disbelief as the other two talismans leave her and fly towards the third one, forming a triangle.

Sailor Pluto's tiara disappears, revealing the planetary symbol of Pluto on her forehead. Back in the room where Sailor Uranus and Neptune were left, Tuxedo Mask watches in astonishment as the symbols of Uranus and Neptune appear on their foreheads; after that, the two Senshi disappear and reappear right in front of their talismans. Their Heart Crystals separate from the talismans and fly back into their bodies, awakening them as their tiaras reappear.

Sailor Uranus takes the Space Sword and Sailor Neptune takes the Deep Aqua Mirror, as Sailor Pluto still holds the Garnet Orb. As the talismans release energy, Professor Tomoe's lab shakes. The talismans form a triangle of energy beams, and each one shoots an additional beam upwards to form a pyramid; at its fourth vertex, the Holy Grail appears.

Before anyone can react, Eudial uses the Fire Buster II to surround all the Senshi in flames and runs toward the Grail. Sailor Moon emerges from the flames, however, and also runs after the Grail. Despite Eudial's attempts to stop her with the Fire Buster II, Sailor Moon still gets to the Grail first. As she touches it there is a flare of light which makes Eudial's fires disappear, and Sailor Moon transforms into Super Sailor Moon.

Eudial fires at the changed Sailor Moon, but the Senshi stops the fire by merely holding up one hand. The attack is deflected back at Eudial, sending her flying out of the building through a window. Seeing this, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune wonder if Sailor Moon is the Messiah. With burns all over her body, Eudial gets into her car and drives away.

As Eudial is driving, Mimete's voice comes over the car radio, informing her that her duty is over. A dangerous road turn appears ahead, but as Eudial tries to hit the brakes, she finds that the brake pedal is missing, replaced with several snails and a sarcastic written note from Mimete. The car, with Eudial still inside, breaks through the fence surrounding the road and falls into water from a great height.

Back inside the cathedral, Sailor Moon reverts to her usual uniform and collapses, apparently worn out by the power-up experience. Sailor Uranus then concludes that she cannot be the Messiah, who is supposed to have infinite power, and declares that they have a new mission: to find the real Messiah.

In a darkened bedroom, a black-haired girl in a black dress crouches on the floor, too weak to stand.

At Professor Tomoe's lab, Mimete informs him that the Holy Grail is now in the possession of the Sailor Senshi. However, the professor just laughs. He says that, despite having the Holy Grail, they have nobody able to use its power; otherwise, the Death Busters' hideout and all the Daimon Eggs would have been immediately obliterated. Mimete suggests that there may be someone who could use the Holy Grail to aid the Death Busters, and Professor Tomoe enthusiastically agrees, as focus shifts once more to the mysterious girl.

Chibiusa and Usagi are in the bathtub, and Chibiusa is in a really good mood. Chibiusa admits that she found a pretty new friend, and Usagi naturally thinks that Chibiusa's new friend is a boy. Chibiusa won't tell Usagi anything about her new friend, so she and Usagi wrestle in the bathtub.

Mamoru meets Michiru, Haruka, and Setsuna at a stadium, and they all transform. Sailor Neptune, Sailor Uranus, and Sailor Pluto explain to Tuxedo Mask why they will not work with Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Senshi. They say that they are the Outer Senshi, the guardians of the solar system, and were given greater power than the other Senshi to guarantee that no intruder would break through and wreak havoc onto the universe. They take the blame for letting intruders into the solar system and onto Earth. These intruders are known as the Death Busters, aka Professor Tomoe's minions. The Outer Senshi then tell Tuxedo Mask that this battle is their problem, that Sailor Moon and the other Senshi cannot handle the battle to come.

Ami and Minako go to Makoto's house, asking if Chibiusa went to see her. Apparently, Chibiusa is nervous and wants to make a good impression after being invited to her new friend's house, and visited every one of the girls to ask for advice on what to wear, what gifts to bring, and proper conversation. Makoto gives Chibiusa a bag of cookies to bring to Hotaru. Ami, Minako, and Makoto walk to Rei's house, where Rei looks angry. It seems that Chibiusa had stopped by Rei's house also, but Usagi volunteers herself in going to Hotaru's house with Chibiusa to be her guide. Rei is upset because Usagi tricked Rei into looking the other way while she ran off with Chibiusa.

Chibiusa and Usagi are on their way to Hotaru's house, and stop by the bookstore to buy the popular new manga book by Ukon Katakuri to present to Hotaru. Meanwhile, Professor Tomoe promises this shadowy figure, the Messiah of Silence, that he will steal pure hearts from humans in order to awaken her.

Usagi knocks on the door to Hotaru's home, and she sees the figure of Kaolinite. Startled, Usagi drops the bag of cookies, and Chibiusa seems none the wiser. Professor Tomoe stands next to Kaolinite, and introduces her as his assistant, Kaori. Professor Tomoe asks Kaori to lead Usagi and Chibiusa into the living room while they wait for Hotaru. Usagi talks herself into thinking that Kaolinite wouldn't be in such a home, and allows herself to go inside. Tomoe then goes to his lair and calls Mimete. Mimete tells Tomoe that she has found a new pure heart target, Ukon Katakuri, the author of a popular manga book, who is doing an autograph signing at Juuban Bookstore.

Hotaru walks into the living room where Usagi and Chibiusa are waiting. Usagi is stunned that Chibiusa's friend is actually a girl. They start arguing in front of Hotaru, and Hotaru is amused by it. As Hotaru starts to lead the girls upstais, Kaori steps in with a tray of coffee. After Kaori offers to take bring it up to her room, Hotaru gets upset and tells her not to interfere with household affairs. Usagi and Chibiusa are confused by Hotaru's outburst. Hotaru, carrying the tray of coffee up to her room, explains to Usagi and Chibiusa that her father is a scientist and Kaori tries to help out around the home as well as the lab. Usagi asks where Hotaru's mother is, and Hotaru says that she died a long time ago. Usagi apologizes, and Hotaru says that she wants to know more about Chibiusa and Usagi. While Chibiusa is stunned at the mysterious beauty of Hotaru's bedroom, Hotaru collapses, having another spell. Hotaru looks over at Usagi's bag, where her transformation brooch is peeking out. Hotaru holds it in her hands, and speaks of its beauty and power. As her eyes start to go blank, Chibiusa snaps her out of it.

Usagi tells Chibiusa to give Hotaru her gift, and ask Chibiusa brings out the book, a flyer for the author's autograph signing at Juban Bookstore drops in Usagi's lap. Usagi and Chibiusa freak out and naturally start arguing about who should have known about the book signing. At Juuban Bookstore, Ukon Katakuri is finished signing autographs and is walking to his car when he is confronted by Mimete and the Daimon U-Henshuu. Usagi appears just in time after running to make it to the book signing on time, with Hotaru and Chibiusa walking behind her. Usagi sees the Daimon removing Ukon's pure heart from his body. Chibiusa takes Hotaru to the arcade as Usagi transforms. U-Henshuu attacks Sailor Moon by throwing razor-sharp pages at her. U-Henshuu's fingers turn into a pair of scissors, and Sailor Moon is helpless on the ground when Sailor Pluto arrives and attacks U-Henshuu with Dead Scream. Sailor Neptune and Uranus appear next to Pluto. Sailor Uranus tells Sailor Moon to run as Sailor Neptune launches the Deep Submerge attack. Sailor Moon asks Sailor Uranus why she needs to run away from the fight, to which Sailor Uranus replies, "You're in the way!"

Sailor Uranus attacks U-Henshuu with her World Shaking attack, which is useless against the Daimon, as she runs toward Uranus and Moon. Sailor Venus uses the Venus Love-Me Chain to grab U-Henshuu's hand and pull her away from Sailor Uranus and Sailor Moon. The other Sailor Senshi appear, as well as Tuxedo Mask. Tuxedo Mask tells the Outer Senshi that while they may have strong individual power, Sailor Moon and the Inner Senshi use their powers to fight as a group. Mimete, frustrated at being outnumbered, orders U-Henshuu to kill them all off for her, and they start to argue. Sailor Moon uses the opportinity to transform into Super Sailor Moon and attacks U-Henshuu with Rainbow Moon Heart Ache. Ukon's pure heart is returned to him.

Later that night, Chibiusa and Usagi are in the bathtub again, talking about Chibiusa's playdate with Hotaru at the arcade. Usagi says that while Hotaru's family situation is a bit messy, Hotaru herself seems like a nice enough girl. Chibiusa says that she wants to be better friends with her.

Mamoru talks about the nature and purposes of the Outer Senshi. Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Pluto tell how their powers exceeded those of the Inner Senshi, for their mission was to defend the solar system from outside intruders. Before they awakened in this age, an outside enemy had already achieved a foothold, and now the battle must be fought on Earth, where even Sailor Pluto will join in. At the Hikawa Shrine, the girls are gathered to hear Mamoru's story. Artemis bemoans how sad it is that, as before, they cannot all work together. Mamoru tells them to give up any hope of that, because the world the Outer Senshi wish for is completely different from that of the Inner Senshi.

Meanwhile, at the headquarters of the Witches Five (now Four) a game of Twister is in progress. Mimete is attempting a difficult move when Professor Tomoe arrives. She is surprised he would visit them in their workplace. He applauds her for being serious about "training" and tells her that since the next target is high jumper Shun Hayase, and since he had already created a suitable Daimon, he decided to bring it over. Mimete thanks him and departs on her mission, and Professor Tomoe takes her place in the game of Twister.

Hotaru is in her bedroom shyly writing a fan letter to the high jumper. She recalls watching a recent track meet on TV where Hayase set a new Japanese record, and the announcer stated that Hayase was frail as a child, just as she is now. Unknown to her, Kaolinite is peeking over her shoulder. She surprises Hotaru and then mocks her for having such hobbies. Hotaru screams for her to get out. Kaolinite pretends to leave, but then returns as Hotaru seals the letter in an envelope. She sneaks a peek at the addressee and then mocks her for writing a "love letter" that she does not have the courage to send, which upsets Hotaru even more.

Usagi arrives home to find Hotaru talking with Chibiusa in the living room. Usagi comes in and greets her, and then wonders why Chibiusa hasn't served refreshments to their guest, and the two start fighting. Hotaru looks shocked at first, but then smiles wistfully, and makes the ironic observation that the house has such a gentle feeling to it. She tells them about the fan letter she has written, and Chibiusa hopes she'll get a reply. Hotaru says that she isn't going to send it because she doesn't know the proper address, and then all but admits she really does lack the courage to do so as well. Usagi then suggests that they deliver the letter in person. Chibiusa agrees, and says that it will give Hotaru a chance to talk directly with Hayase.

Mimete is already at the stadium where Hayase trains, ogling him and fantasizing, when Usagi, Chibiusa, and Hotaru arrive. Setsuna, Michiru, and Haruka are there as well, and as Chibiusa greets them, they all are shocked to see Usagi running onto the field with Hotaru in tow, pursued by three security guards. The guards catch up to them, but then Hayase notices the commotion and comes over. Usagi tells Hotaru to give him the letter as Chibiusa plays cheerleader in the background. She almost does, but then freezes.

Mimete unleashes her new Daimon, U-Ndokai, then chases off the security guards, leaving a trail of fire that also consumes Hotaru's dropped letter. Hotaru is crushed, and blanks out completely. Usagi sees Hotaru to safety and then transforms. U-Ndokai tries to take Hayase's Pure Heart Crystal, but is interrupted by Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon. She distracts them and then devours the Heart Crystal. As Mimete makes to leave, the Daimon notices Hotaru looking ill and suggests she go to the medical office. Hotaru's eyes glow and she blasts the Daimon back on to the field. The three Outer Senshi take note of the wave of power that was just released, concerned by the danger posed by Hotaru. Sailor Chibi Moon attacks the Daimon with Pink Sugar Heart Attack, and then Sailor Moon destroys her.

Hotaru comes to with Hayase leaning over her. He perceives that she is a frail child as he once was, and tells her how even today he sometimes wonders if his current healthy self is just a dream. Hotaru tells him she knows that feeling too, and Hayase thanks her for letting him open up to her. She tells him to do his best at the next meet, and he encourages her to also do her best, and believe that she will be strong one day.

Some time later, Hotaru watches Hayase's next meet on TV, as he sets a new record.

Airdate: December 17, 1994

Hotaru and Chibiusa are playing a variation of Old Maid at Hotaru’s house. Down in his basement laboratory, Professor Tomoe is about to make a new Daimon as Mimete looks on. She suddenly realizes it's time for tea, and the Professor remembers it's his turn to get snacks for everyone. After the Professor leaves on his errand, Mimete disparages his half measures in the making of Daimon, and overloads the Daimon Egg fusion chamber. She quickly realizes she's in over her head, and bails out as a strange and massive explosion rattles the house. Upstairs, Hotaru and Chibiusa realize something has happened. They quickly discover numerous displacements of the time-space continuum in every corner of the room. Chibiusa uses Luna P to contact the Sailor Senshi. When contact is suddenly broken, the Senshi head for Hotaru's house immediately.

More time-space anomalies are discovered by Hotaru and Chibiusa, and the last one, a lion coming through Hotaru's roll top desk, forces them to flee the room. On the other side of the door, they find themselves in a desert at night. When the door behind them disappears, they are left trapped in a labyrinth of distortions. Hotaru collapses and begins to despair, but Chibiusa tells her that help is coming, and that they must do their best until it arrives. Professor Tomoe returns from his errand to fetch snacks and finds the door to his house will not open. After attempting to break it down, he hears voices behind him, as Sailor Mercury explains what has happened to the house. He turns to see the Sailor Senshi standing behind him. Tomoe fears they have realized who he really is, but after Sailor Moon embarrasses everyone with a ridiculous introduction, he realizes they have only come to try and rescue Hotaru from whatever strangeness has happened to his house. Sailor Mercury explains that they have an hour before the house is irrevocably lost to the distortion.

Hotaru and Chibiusa walk through a jungle, complaining that they are hot and thirsty, only to find themselves suddenly in a frozen wasteland. Outside the house, the Sailor Senshi argue about how to get into the house, and Sailor Mercury interrupts them, explaining they cannot enter through the door or the stability of the distortion will be broken and the house lost. They instead use Sailor Teleport to gain entry, and find themselves looking at an alpine vista. Sailor Mercury assures them that they are still inside the house, and they begin to look for Hotaru and Chibiusa. Outside, Tomoe contemplates the irony that he must rely on the Sailor Senshi to rescue Hotaru, who is so critical to his plans. He settles down to wait and starts eating the snacks he bought. Just outside the gate of the house, Haruka and Michiru arrive to find Setsuna spying out the situation. Setsuna explains what has happened, and Haruka remarks that because Hotaru is so dangerous, it might be for the best if she is not rescued, even if it means Sailor Moon and her group are lost as well.

Now in a forest, Chibiusa is getting hungry and tired. She tries to walk it off, but the scenery changes and she finds herself halfway over a chasm. Hotaru grabs her, but isn't strong enough to pull her to safety, and both of them fall over the side. The Sailor Senshi arrive just in time for Sailor Venus to save them with the Venus Love-Me Chain. After momentarily blacking out, Hotaru awakens to hear Sailor Mercury explaining that they cannot teleport out with both Chibiusa and Hotaru. Hotaru begs them to take Chibiusa and leave her behind, because she is someone who should have never been born anyway. Sailor Moon insists that they will all get out together.

The Sailor Senshi, Hotaru, and Chibiusa finally arrive in what is recognizable as the house, where they discover the source of the distortions: a Daimon calling herself U-Ikasaman. Sailor Mercury explains they must defeat the Daimon to escape. U-Ikasaman prefers gambling to fighting, so she challenges the Sailor Senshi to a series of betting contests. She promises to let them all go if even one of them can beat her, but if not, they must be her gaming partners forever. One by one, they fall prey to her rigged games and are trapped inside giant playing cards, until only Chibusa and Hotaru are left. They challenge her to a game of Old Maid. Chibiusa proves to be good at the game and goes out first, but U-Ikasaman reneges on her promise and demands that Hotaru also beat her. Hotaru is terrified at how everyone’s fate now hangs on her choice, but the Senshi reassure her. She chooses the correct card, and then faints.

U-Ikasaman again reneges on her promise. Chibiusa transforms into Sailor Chibi Moon and attempts to hit her with the Pink Sugar Heart Attack, but it takes two tries to work. When it finally does, it frees Sailor Moon from her playing card. Sailor Moon transforms into Super Sailor Moon and destroys U-Ikasaman with Rainbow Moon Heart Ache, freeing everyone and returning the house to normal. The Sailor Senshi emerge through the front door, with Jupiter carrying the unconscious Hotaru. Professor Tomoe thanks them for rescuing her and then thinks to himself that one day they will deeply regret today's kindness. Outside the gate, Setsuna asks Haruka if she is disappointed, and Michiru says that, in fact, Haruka believes in Sailor Moon more than either of them.

Chibiusa leaves happy, her friendship with Hotaru affirmed yet again.

30 (119)- "Chinmoku no Meshia kakusei? Unmei no hoshiboshi" ("Awakening of the Messiah of Silence? Stars of Destiny")[]

(沈黙のメシアの覚せい?運命の星々) ("Goodness Eclipsed")

Airdate: December 24, 1994

Rei is running through her apocalyptic nightmare, which is becoming stronger and clearer now. A woman's figure appears, and Rei asks if she is the Messiah, and begs her to save everyone. The figure raises a long, scythe-like weapon and leaps toward Rei as she brings the scythe down.

The girls are studying at Hikawa Shrine when Chibiusa arrives to ask a favor. She wants to take Hotaru to a new planetarium that has just opened, where Thomas Harris, a famous DJ, will be narrating the program. Everyone agrees it's a wonderful idea. Minako wonders why the Outer Senshi are keeping such a close eye on Hotaru. Rei begins to see a similarity between Hotaru and the face of the figure in her nightmare. She brushes it off, but as Chibiusa hits up Usagi for the admission fee to the planetarium, her sense of foreboding builds.

Atop a high rise building, the Outer Senshi are also discussing Hotaru. Michiru is seeing the same dream as Rei, and she too has noticed the scythe-like weapon held by the figure in her dream. When she describes it, they realize it must be the Silence Glaive, which means that the "Senshi of Ruin" is the one in the dream, and that it may be too late to save the Earth. Haruka is determined that must not happen, and is prepared to strike before she awakens.

Professor Tomoe is having an audience with the Messiah of Silence. She tells him that her time is fast approaching. Tomoe remarks that they were wise to choose "her." She tells him to be of use to her, and bring her the Pure Hearts she needs to awaken. Tomoe calls Mimete and tells her to proceed with her next mission. Mimete, looking at a flier about the planetarium, asks if he likes the stars; he replies in the affirmative, then starts to laugh hysterically as he glances at a strange device next to him in his lab.

The next day, as Hotaru is going home from school, she finds Chibiusa waiting for her along the way. Chibiusa asks if she wants to go to the planetarium, and though Hotaru is reluctant at first and wants to check with her father to make sure it is okay, she finally agrees. Inside the planetarium, Thomas Harris narrates the show, telling the various myths about the constellations. Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna notice that Mimete is present, as well as Usagi's group and Hotaru. Haruka is pleased, since an attack right now might force Hotaru to reveal what she really is.

Usagi notices Setsuna standing at the door of the auditorium, and she and the Inner Senshi go to meet with her in an exhibit room. She feels that they can no longer withhold the truth from the Inner Senshi, and tells them that the enemy is a group from outer space called the Death Busters. The Outer Senshi are trying to prevent the approaching Silence from destroying the world. Using the Garnet Orb, Setsuna shows the Inner Senshi the dream Rei has been seeing. They see the figure of the woman with the scythe, and Setsuna tells them the she is the warrior who must not awaken, for she appears only when everything is to be destroyed, and that they will soon see who this person is.

Back in the auditorium, Mimete has unleashed her Daimon, U-Chouten. Mimete tries to get Thomas Harris' autograph, but he refuses and she clears the audience out by using Charm Buster. Hotaru starts to have one of her seizures, and when Chibiusa goes to get help she is stopped by Sailor Uranus, who wants to watch Hotaru to see what happens. Sailor Moon and the Sailor Team arrive to deal with Mimete and the Daimon. U-Chouten tries to take the DJ’s Pure Heart Crystal, but Mimete tells her to get rid of the Senshi first. The Daimon attacks, but is momentarily stopped by Tuxedo Mask. She renews the attack, and Hotaru is struck. Hotaru is suddenly surrounded by a bright pink aura as the symbol of Saturn appears on her forehead. She glares at U-Chouten and the Daimon finds herself unable to move. Sailor Moon transforms into Super Sailor Moon and finishes the Daimon off with Rainbow Moon Heart Ache.

Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Pluto attack Hotaru; Chibiusa jumps in front of Hotaru to shield her, and Sailor Moon pushes them out of the way just in time. The Inner Senshi demand an explanation, and the Outer Senshi reply that Hotaru is Sailor Saturn, who only awakens when the world is about to end. They want to prevent her awakening by killing Hotaru. The Inner Senshi insist that there must be some other way, and the Outer Senshi say that this is why the two groups could not work together. As the two groups argue, Hotaru suddenly disappears.

Hotaru reappears in her bed at home, still unconscious. Kaolinite stands by her bed and remarks that Hotaru is a very bad girl not to come straight home. Down in his basement laboratory, Professor Tomoe explains to Pharaoh 90 that they could not have chosen a better candidate for their Messiah of Silence than the Senshi of Destruction, Sailor Saturn.

31 (120)- "Ijigen kara no shinryaku! Mugen Gakuen no nazo" ("Invasion from an Alternate Dimension! The Mystery of Mugen Academy")[]

(異次元からの侵略!無限学園の謎) ("Next In Line")

Airdate: January 7, 1995

Chibiusa runs through rain soaked streets, her mind flashing back to what the Outer Senshi said of the coming Silence, and the danger Hotaru represents. She arrives at Hotaru's house and bursts through the door without knocking. As she searches through the house, she finds all the rooms completely empty and bare. Someone touches her shoulder, startling her, but she turns to find Setsuna Meiou. She arrived ahead of Chibiusa, but found the house empty. Chibiusa accuses her of making Hotaru disappear. Setsuna denies this, but Chibiusa says that she hates her for what she has done.

The girls are at Mamoru's apartment, watching as he searches the internet for information on Professor Tomoe. He discovers that not only is Tomoe a professor at the elite Mugen Academy, he is its owner. Ami suggests they go to the school to investigate. Setsuna arrives then with a rain-soaked Chibiusa. Mamoru thanks her for bringing Chibiusa there, but as she tries to leave, he asks that she tell them all she knows about Mugen Academy. Setsuna does so, though she seems reluctant.

Setsuna tells them that Tomoe created the school three years ago, and since then many strange things have happened. Haruka and Michiru enrolled in the school in order to infiltrate and investigate. They and Setsuna believe Tomoe is affiliated with the Death Busters. She does not know if Hotaru is also a member; all Setsuna knows is that she is the reincarnation of Sailor Saturn. Chibiusa becomes upset and defends Hotaru as a good, kind girl who does not deserve death. Usagi wonders if there isn't another way to stop the Silence without killing Hotaru, who is a Senshi like the rest of them. Setsuna sadly observes that this is why she did not want to involve the others in this matter.

Down in his lab, Professor Tomoe receives a phone call from Mimete suggesting that their next target be Dr. Sergei Asimov, who is about to give a lecture at Mugen Academy on his theory of alternate dimensions. Tomoe is intrigued by the theory and the idea, but tells Mimete to hold off for now and await further instructions. Mimete is suspicious of this and eavesdrops on the lab via a listening device; she discovers Tomoe has lost confidence in her and is sending Tellu in her place. Furious, Mimete uses a voice synthesizer to trick Tellu into believing the Professor had cancelled the operation, and undertakes the mission herself, determined to win back the Professor's confidence.

The girls arrive at Mugen Academy and find that, because of the lecture that day, the school is open to visitors. In the meantime, Mamoru continues his investigation and discovers an article about a fire at Professor Tomoe's lab four years ago; the fire destroyed the building and killed everyone except the Professor and Hotaru, who emerged uninjured.

Once inside the school, the girls sneak through the halls looking for information, and Ami suggests that they look for the computer room. They are confronted by a stern security guard, and claim that they were looking for the lecture hall but got lost. The guard gives them directions and sends them on their way. Mimete passes by then, and the guard finds her suspicious and wants to see what she is carrying in a large sack slung over her shoulder. She refuses, and in the ensuing struggle, she tasers the guard. As Mimete continues onward, though, Tellu secretly watches her from a short distance away.

In the hall, Dr. Asimov gives his lecture about his theory of alternate universes, and it is broadcast on monitors throughout the building. Meanwhile, the girls split up to investigate separately. In the security room, Haruka and Michiru search for the entrance to the Death Busters’ headquarters. Setsuna joins them, and tells them that Usagi's group is also there investigating. Down in his lab, Professor Tomoe watches Dr. Asimov's lecture, laughing to himself about the accuracy of the lecturer's theories.

Hotaru sleeps on the throne of the Messiah of Silence, dreaming. In her dream, she remembers being in her father’s genetics lab, when something goes wrong with one of the machines and it suddenly explodes. Professor Tomoe cradles Hotaru's limp body, grieving, when a strange entity offers to save her life. The Professor says he will do anything, and the creature says that it will take over their bodies. As it enters Tomoe's body through his right eye, another explosion then destroys the entire building.

The lights in the hall suddenly go out in the middle of the lecture. Mimete appears on stage, then uses her Charm Buster to incapacitate the audience. She then unleashes her Daimon, U-Pasokon, on Dr. Asimov to steal his Pure Heart Crystal. The Inner Senshi arrive, and Mimete orders the Daimon to attack them. The Daimon and Senshi fight, and Mimete even briefly joins in the battle before unveiling a secret weapon: Eudial's Witches Electric Warp machine. Before she can use it, though, Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Chibi Moon arrive, and Sailor Chibi Moon knocks the Daimon down using Pink Sugar Heart Attack. Sailor Moon transforms into Super Sailor Moon and destroys the Daimon with Rainbow Moon Heart Ache.

When confronted by the Sailor Senshi, Mimete turns on the machine, which transfers her onto the giant television behind the lecture stage. She triumphantly declares that not only does it make her larger, it also increases her powers. As she is about to attack, though, Tellu appears, and observes that is is not nice to steal others' work. As she picks up the power cord, Tellu explains that Eudial never used that machine because if the television were unplugged while one was inside, they would be trapped in limbo forever. Though Mimete begs for her life, Tellu pulls the plug and then disappears, laughing. The Sailor Senshi are surprised to see such ruthless infighting within the enemy's ranks. Super Sailor Moon weakens and reverts back to Sailor Moon form, as the Outer Senshi look on from the balcony.

After seeing Tellu literally pull the plug on Mimete, Super Sailor Moon slumps to the ground and reverts back to Sailor Moon. The Outer Senshi comment on how heartless their enemies are, but observe that they cannot afford to be idealistic, either, and must destroy the Messiah of Silence. As they leave, the other Sailor Senshi follow and beg them to find another way, but they refuse to listen. Sailor Chibi Moon tearfully calls after them that she will protect her friend, Hotaru.

The Messiah of Silence asks Professor Tomoe if he has gathered any pure hearts for her. The Professor apologizes for the delay, and the Messiah reminds him that she cannot fully awaken without them, and warns that she will not forgive anyone who gets in the way of her revival. For a moment the shadows leave her face, and Hotaru calls Chibiusa's name, but the Messiah quickly reasserts control and orders the Professor to obtain more pure hearts.

In the Witches 5 lab (now with a sign that says "Witches 3"), Tellu receives a phone call from Professor Tomoe. He tells her that he read her report and would like her to go ahead with the plan to capture pure hearts using plants, as their efforts with Daimons have not been working. When the Professor hangs up Kaori arrives, bringing him coffee. He comments that it is a shame she is wasting her talents acting as his secretary, and suggests that she return to work, as she is the only one he can trust. As he leaves, she appears overcome by emotion for a moment, then transforms into Kaolinite and disappears.

A crowd has formed around Tellu's store, where she is selling Telluns, plants which require no water or fertilizer and are on sale for only ten yen each. Setsuna happens upon the scene and, wonders aloud about this plant she has never heard of before.

Late at night, a Tellun is sitting amongst plants in a greenhouse when it begins to glow red. It absorbs the energy of all the plants around it, leaving them wilted and dead.

The next day Chibiusa runs down the sidewalk, pursued by Usagi, Luna, and Artemis. Usagi can't keep up and is forced to stop, whining about how fast the girl is going. Chibiusa had claimed she was just going on a walk, but as Usagi and the cats talk, they comment that she has been deeply concerned for Hotaru. Luna observes that Usagi's daughter is very much like her, and the two of them start arguing, but Artemis interrupts with the observation that Chibiusa appears to be heading for Mugen Academy.

Chibiusa arrives at the empty school, planning to sneak in and investigate, but Usagi catches her before she can go inside. She and the cats chide Chibiusa for going into danger, but Chibiusa says that she thinks Hotaru has been captured by the Death Busters and is probably inside of the school. She says that she wants to save her friend. Usagi kindly tells her that the others feel the same way, and she can leave it to her "big sisters" to help.

Hotaru awakens to find herself on the throne of the Messiah of Silence and, confused, wanders away while calling for Chibiusa.

Setsuna analyzes the Tellun that she'd purchased, and discovers that the plants have the ability to absorb water in the atmosphere. As she works, though, the flower bud on the plant suddenly blooms, emitting red energy that threatens to engulf her. The Garnet Rod appears and protects her, much to Setsuna's surprise.

As Hotaru walks down the street she passes Tellu's store, and Tellu gives her the last Tellun, saying that it is a flower that brings happiness. Hotaru gladly accepts, planning to give the flower to Chibiusa as a gift.

Hotaru arrives at the Tsukino residence and Chibiusa is delighted to see her friend again, and gladly accepts the Tellun. Hotaru says that a flower that brings happiness isn't meant for her because she hurts people realizing it, because there's another self inside of her, and that's why she is afraid to make friends. She goes on to add that Chibiusa makes her feel better, but as she speaks she grows weak and slumps to the ground. When Chibiusa approaches to help, Hotaru's eyes flash red and she demands Chibiusa's Pure Heart. Realizing that her friend is in danger, Hotaru manages to regain control of her body, but just as she does Kaolinite appears to take her away. Chibiusa tries to defend her friend, but Kaolinite contemptuously knocks her away with a blast of energy and disappears with Hotaru.

The cats and Usagi are surprised by the reappearance of Kaolinite, but Chibiusa is only upset that she was unable to protect her friend. Setsuna arrives at the house and, seeing the Tellun that Chibiusa is holding, slaps it out of her hands. Chibiusa becomes upset because Hotaru brought her the plant, but Setsuna explains that once the flower on the Tellun blooms, it steals Pure Hearts. If all the flowers in town bloom at once, it could be a disaster. Setsuna tells them that they need to find the source of the flowers and destroy them, and Chibiusa declares that she will help because then she can prove Hotaru didn't have anything to do with it.

Setsuna, Usagi, and Chibiusa arrive at Tellu's shop and sneak around the back. Inside, Tellu seals up the store, trapping her current customers as the Tellun begin to bloom and extract the pure hearts from those inside the store. As Tellu gathers the crystals, the three peek through the back door and see what is going on, and transform.

The three Sailor Senshi confront Tellu, who tells them they are foolish for attacking her while surrounded by Telluns. Sailor Chibi Moon attempts to destroy the plants, but her attack does nothing. Tellu mocks her and, declaring her the weakest, attacks. Sailor Pluto jumps in the way of Tellu's attack and is trapped by vines, but Tuxedo Mask arrives and frees her with a thrown rose. Sailor Moon transforms into Super Sailor Moon and uses Rainbow Moon Heart Ache to destroy the plants in the shop. The attack uses up her energy, though, and she immediately reverts to Sailor Moon form again.

Tellu is angry that her precious flowers have been destroyed, and unleashes a Hyper Tellun. This, she explains, reacts only to pure hearts, and it destroys the owner of the pure hearts that it devours. She turns away, saying that she needs to deliver the pure hearts she has already collected to the Professor, but Tuxedo Mask throws a rose that knocks them from her hands and frees them. The Hyper Tellun reacts to the sudden appearance of the pure hearts and attacks Tellu. Though she tries to fight back, she and the Hyper Tellun are both destroyed.

Sailor Moon finds a student handbook from Mugen Academy on the ground where Tellu had been, which only makes her more certain that the school is suspicious. Sailor Chibi Moon rushes over to Sailor Pluto and apologizes because it was her fault the other Senshi was injured. She adds that she still believes in Hotaru, however, and knows she couldn't have anything to do with this.

The Sailor Senshi go to confront her and she traps them in a dimention where they have to battle both her and her twin, Ptilol. The Senshi try to attack them, but their attacks get absorbed into the twins' staffs, making them stronger. Realizing that they can't attack them directly, Sailor Mercury uses Sabo Spray to cloud the area. Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Mars force the two to seperate and when both twins attack the senshi, the senshi jump out of the way, causing the two to fire atack each other, destroying the witches, and releasing the pure heart crystals.

Meanwhile Kaolinite lures Chibiusa to Hotaru's home, and captures her, despite the efforts of Sailor Pluto and Tuxedo Mask. The Inner and Outer Senshi meet in the depths of Mugen, only to find Chibiusa captured, and Hotaru possessed by the Messiah of Silence. Sailor Moon tries to save Chibiusa, but is prevented by a barrier. The Messiah of Silence steals Chibiusa's pure heart crystal and consumes it. To the senshi's surprise, she does not turn into Sailor Saturn, but as another powerful daimon, Mistress 9. Kaolinite is destroyed by Mistress 9, having served her purpose. Taking Chibiusa, the senshi flee the school as it begins to shake.

Mamoru uses his powers to keep Chibiusa alive with the absence of her pure heart crystal. Setsuna visits the Inner Senshi to inform them that she will help Uranus and Neptune defeat Mistress 9. The others object worried about Hotaru's safety, but she tells them that the monster had taken over and it needs to be done. The senshi go to Mugen Academy and prepare to fight to rescue both Chibiusa and Hotaru.

In his lab beneath Mugen Academy, Professor Tomoe stands with Mistress 9 in front of a mass of machinery, in the center of which is a large clear dome containing what seems to be stars and nebulae. He declares that they merely need to put the Holy Grail into the machine to summon Pharaoh 90 from the Tau Star System.

As they speak, Mamoru sits in his apartment with Chibiusa cradled in his arms, keeping her alive with his own life energy.

Usagi and her friends arrive at the ruins around the building and, determined to defeat the Death Busters in order to save Chibiusa and Hotaru, transform into Sailor Senshi.

In the meantime, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Pluto fly toward the same area in a helicopter. Uranus declares that there is no such thing as the Messiah and that they must save the world with their own hands.

Mistress 9 senses the approach of the Sailor Senshi and the Holy Grail. She says that because her powers have not completely awakened yet she needs to keep the invaders at a distance, and so creates a dome-shaped force field around the area. As she does, all of the remaining Daimon Eggs in Mugen Academy hatch and form into Undifferentiated Daimons.

Sailor Mercury studies the force field with her computer and discovers the only way to enter it is by using Sailor Teleport. Before they can, however, the Daimons begin to pour out of the building, and easily pass through the force field to attack. Though the Senshi fend the Daimons off, the creatures just keep coming in an endless stream, preventing them from using Sailor Teleport to escape. Sailor Moon uses Moon Spiral Heart Attack to destroy all of the Daimons in the area, but more of them emerge from within the force field.

Mistress 9 is weakened by the use of her powers, but states that Mugen Academy is now protected from invaders. Her hand begins to glow with dark energy as she reaches out.

Outside of the building the Sailor Senshi manage to fend off the Daimons long enough to attempt to use Sailor Teleport, but just as they do a portal opens in the air above them, and Mistress 9's hand reaches through to grab hold of Sailor Moon's neck and pull her back through the portal. The other Senshi attempt to pull her back, but the Daimons attack and force them away, and Sailor Moon disappears. The Daimons then retreat and surround the force field, creating a second wall around Mugen Academy. Sailor Mercury observes that without Sailor Moon the Inner Senshi are now unable to use Sailor Teleport to get inside.

The three Outer Senshi arrive in the area and see the force field, but intend to enter through the star-shaped opening in the top. As they approach, however, the Daimons notice them and attack, swarming the helicopter until it explodes.

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, however, open their eyes to find themselves in a frozen moment inside the exploding helicopter. Sailor Pluto tells them that she has stopped time; it is a power she never told them that she had simply because it was forbidden for her to use it. Sailor Neptune asks her what will happen to her, but she only smiles and speaks of the "true Messiah" before teleporting the two of them away. As they land on top of the remains of Mugen Academy, time resumes and the helicopter explodes.

Mistress 9 remarks upon the tactics of the Outer Senshi with apparent admiration. Professor Tomoe, however, says that the power of the Messiah of Silence is truly great. She begins to tell him that it was because of the Pure Heart Crystal she devoured, but as she speaks Hotaru resurfaces and says she should not use that pure heart for evil deeds. When Professor Tomoe asks she insists that nothing is wrong, and shifts into Hotaru's form, saying that she will now go retrieve the Holy Grail. She addresses the professor as "Germatoid" and orders him to deal with the Sailor Senshi who have entered the building.

Outside of the building the force field begins to expand, and as Sailor Mercury analyzes it with her computer, she says that the only thing they can do is to prevent it from continuing to grow. The four of them declare that they must believe in Sailor Moon and do what they are able to do. They spread out and surround the dome, combining their powers to create a four-sided barrier around it.

Sailor Moon awakens within the ruins of the building and, seeing an unconscious Hotaru nearby, calls out to the girl.

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune make their way through the building and find themselves in a hallway lined by strange humanoid figures. Professor Tomoe appears and tells them he is disappointed: he hoped that such good students would become good hosts for Daimons, just like the body he inhabits. As he speaks the Daimon Germatoid emerges, leaving Professor Tomoe's body to collapse to the ground. Sailor Uranus uses World Shaking and Germatoid disintegrates - but each of the pieces merges with one of the puppet bodies along the walls, bringing them to life. The Daimon laughs mockingly, saying that he has already analyzed their powers and they have no chance against him.

Though the two Senshi fight with all their power, they are eventually overpowered by the puppets. Just as it seems they have lost, however, they hear Sailor Pluto's voice, and the Deep Aqua Mirror and Space Sword appear before them. Sailor Neptune uses the mirror to determine which puppet is the real Germatoid, and Sailor Uranus destroys it with her sword. The other puppets all disappear, and the two of them run onward. They observe that the Death Busters are more powerful than they expected, but nevertheless, they will not lose.

Behind them, Professor Tomoe lies forgotten on the ground at the battle site. He begins to stir, and immediately whispers Hotaru's name.

Meanwhile, as Sailor Moon cradles Hotaru in her arms, the girl says that she overheard the enemy say that if she allowed the Holy Grail to shine within this room, they would all be destroyed. Sailor Moon nods and says that she is glad that Hotaru is all right, but Hotaru only urges "Usagi" to hurry and save Chibiusa. Sailor Moon pauses and asks how she knew that she was Usagi Tsukino, and realizes that she isn't really Hotaru. The girl laughs and says that she is Hotaru's body, since she had absorbed her, and transforms back into Mistress 9, introducing herself as a being from the Tau Star System.

The two Outer Senshi arrive then and declare that they will destroy her in order to protect the world, but Sailor Moon jumps into the way to stop them. Mistress 9 laughs mockingly and reveals the lab and the machine that will summon Pharaoh 90, telling him to wait just a little longer.

Mistress 9 declares that Hotaru is now dead, and that now all she needs is the Holy Grail in order to summon Pharaoh 90. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune both attack her with the intention of destroying her before that can happen, but Sailor Moon jumps in the way and is hit by both attacks.

Mistress 9 captures both of them and says that she will kill them unless she is given the Holy Grail. Even though Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune insist that she not give it up, Sailor Moon starts to summon the Grail, when Professor Tomoe staggers out of the darkness toward Mistress 9, calling out to Hotaru. Mistress 9 is disgusted by him and attacks, strangling him with her hair as Sailor Moon weeps and begs her to stop.

Meanwhile, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus combine their powers to create a force field around the school, keeping the enemy's energy from expanding.

Professor Tomoe calls out to Hotaru once again, and to everyone's surprise, a soft call of "Papa" emerges from Mistress 9's lips. She releases her hostages and drops to her knees in pain, saying that her body is rejecting her and that she needs the Grail. Believing that Hotaru is still alive, Sailor Moon fully summons the Grail and gives it to Professor Tomoe, who in turn hands it to Mistress 9.

As soon as she touches the Grail there is a flare of light which hurls both Professor Tomoe and Sailor Moon away from her, and she laughs in triumph. Sailor Moon tries to call out to Hotaru again, but Mistress 9 only mocks her, saying that in order to defeat Pharaoh 90 after he was given a vessel of such purity would require a heart even more pure. She pushes the Grail into a device, which causes a pillar of black light to form, and the building begins to crumble.

Outside the Daimons become stronger, beginning to overwhelm the Inner Senshi. They realize that this means things aren't going well inside and call out to Sailor Moon with concern.

Inside the device the Grail shatters, and bolts of energy begin to fire indiscriminately from within its glass dome as Pharaoh 90 begins to materialize. Sailor Moon attempts to use Moon Cosmic Power but it has no effect, and the entity counterattacks; Sailor Moon is thrown back, the Spiral Heart Moon Rod falling from her hand.

Even as Mistress 9 gloats about her impending victory, one of the energy bolts begins to form behind her. Professor Tomoe tries to protect her, and Sailor Moon throws herself in the way with what appears to be the last of her energy, taking the brunt of the impact herself.

The force field around the crumbling building shatters, and the four Inner Senshi are hurled away with the force of the enemy's power.

As Professor Tomoe cradles Mistress 9's body, he hears Hotaru's voice calling out to him. He apologizes to her, saying that he doesn't know what he can do, and as his tears fall Hotaru reawakens within Mistress 9's body. The two of them struggle for dominance, and finally the black star on Mistress 9's forehead shatters, revealing the planetary symbol of Saturn underneath. Mistress 9's body slowly disintegrates into nothingness.

Back at Mamoru's apartment, he is cradling Chibiusa's body, keeping her alive with his own power. A ghostly image of Sailor Saturn appears before him and returns Chibiusa's Pure Heart Crystal to her body. Artemis and Luna recognize the figure as both Saturn and Hotaru, before she thanks Chibiusa and disappears.

At the Mugen Academy building, Pharaoh 90's form is expanding and taking substance, and the earth trembles and cracks with the pressure of his growing power. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune look upon the destruction and despair that everything is over and lost. They see Sailor Moon kneeling a short distance away and are angry with her, but she only weeps silently in response.

Sailor Saturn appears before them and declares that she will destroy Pharaoh 90, as she is now the only one with enough power to do so. Sailor Moon tries to stop her, but Sailor Saturn summons her Silence Glaive and forces her to halt, then leaps into the growing entity that is Pharaoh 90.

Sailor Moon tries to run forward but is stopped by an invisible barrier. She tries again and again to transform into Super Sailor Moon with no success, tears streaming down her face as she pounds the ground in frustration. The other Sailor Senshi, including Uranus and Neptune, are affected by the sight and combine their powers, sending them to Sailor Moon.

The crescent moon on Sailor Moon's tiara changes colors as she draws upon everyone's powers, then calls one more time, "Crisis, Make Up!" She finally transforms into Super Sailor Moon and flies toward Pharaoh 90, forcing her way into the darkness even as Sailor Saturn can be heard calling a goodbye to them all.

After a number of explosions from within Pharaoh 90, he explodes, leaving behind a massive crater in the ground. Uranus and Neptune look up and remember what Sailor Pluto said about the true Messiah.

A multitude of butterflies made of light swirl around the battered form of Super Sailor Moon as she stands amidst the destruction, her expression blank and her arms cradling a sleeping baby.

Enraged by Usagi's actions for willingly giving up the Holy Grail and putting the existance of Earth at risk for one life, Haruka and Michiru both deem her unworthy of being their future queen, Neo Queen Serenity because they know she would never resort to such things. Makoto and the others are offended and decides to challenge them. Despite Usagi's plea not to do so, they transformed quickly the same way Haruka and Michiru. Sailor Venus accuses Sailors Uranus and Neptune for scapegoating Usagi out of convenience just because she wanted to save their friend's life. Sailor Mercury claims that Sailor Moon did her best in trying to save Earth and Hotaru, but they weren't convinced. Sailor Uranus pointed out that her idealisms put the Earth at risk, which a mistake that she and Neptune were both trying to avoid. Only then Usagi peads with her friends to let her talk to them. She admits they were right, but she must convince the Outers Senshi otherwise she did the right thing herself. Transforming into Sailor Moon, she fights with Sailors Uranus and Neptune. When they viciously attack her, the Inners were ready to fight with her. However, Tuxedo Mask stops them and wisely mentions Sailor Moon must fight her own battles and they can't interfere. Before Sailors Uranus and Neptune were to finish their fight, the Silver Crystal's powers throws them back, allowing Sailor Moon to win the fight. They kneel before her and apologize for their actions refering her as Neo Queen Serenity. Before leaving, Sailor Uranus informs Sailor Moon and the others that Hotaru is alive and well.
